With heavy hearts, we must announce that we are delaying our Closed Alpha launch as well as our Early Access release. This was an extremely tough decision to make, but as we have been working tirelessly to hit these scheduled dates, we’ve come to realize that portions of the game still need more polish to bring them up to our standards. We made a commitment to ourselves and to all of you that we would deliver a Battle Royale experience like no other – but we just aren’t there yet. We are aware of the technical challenges involved in developing an ambitious game like ION and overcoming these hurdles is something that is not accomplished overnight. We pride ourselves in not only being developers, but unrelenting gamers as well. We know how frustrating it can be to die or lose out on a kill due to lag or unbalanced play. We’ve all seen games live and die based on matchmaking queue times. Our game hinges on that first month when it’s made streamable and we must provide a stable, polished, and replayable experience to retain and grow a healthy player base.
We understand that this news is disappointing and frustrating. We know everyone is excited and anxious to play the game and we are just as excited to get it in your hands. Working on this game has been the hardest thing we’ve done in our lives, but we are on the right path and getting closer and closer to release. It’s very important that we do this right. We are more than confident that with the extra development time, you won’t remember this delay when the game releases.
Now, I’m sure the next big question on your mind is, “Well, what are the new dates then?” That’s something we can’t give a concrete answer to right now, but know that we have our own internal dates we are aiming for. At this point, there is just no way of guaranteeing a concrete delivery date with the amount of features we have planned. We’ve learned our lesson and are going to be a lot more careful from now on in terms of releasing any deadlines so as not to disappoint. All I can tell you is that we have an amazing foundation and our goals are very much within reach. We’ll announce a date once we’re confident in its feasibility.
So as a final point on release dates: We have our internal dates that we are aiming for in terms of the closed alpha and early access release. We are not planning on this being an extremely long delay. Our Pre-Alpha testers will still have access to the game in its current state and will be a monumental part of helping us test the game to get it to closed alpha (thank you again all Pre-Alpha testers). The NDA will remain in effect until closed alpha most likely. We will continue to update everyone on the progress we make and the closer we get to our internal dates, we’ll make another announcement.
Now with all that doom and gloom out of the way, feast your eyes on some Pre-Alpha footage we put together to hold you over in the meantime:
PS. We love you all and are thankful for your support. Hang in there with us a little longer!
