Good post Guilmon! In H1z1 there is the well known Gas that kind of creeps up on you, and as the game goes on slowly kills you.
Here's my thoughts on it, and I may be way off but its a bit different than the gas type effect:
I envisioned the blue force field not as an invisible barrier that could pass through you, but potentially as a solid one that if you run in to you will not be able to run past. As the barrier slowly closes it it would literally push you forward. This would add an interesting dynamic I think and make you re-think how you have to play along the edges of it.
Instead of bobbing in and out of it, you would then need to make sure you are playing aggressive enough to stay forward of the barrier, and position yourself in spaces to best project yourself.
The next question is what happens if you touch it.. you could either make it like hitting a solid wall, or make it hurt you if you hit it.
What about this idea:
Normally, hitting the blue barrier would be like hitting a solid wall. You simply cant walk through it. What if there were events during battle, and one of the random events would be electrifying the barrier where if you hit it, you would sustain damage.
Other options could be during a random event:
Shocking Barrier - Hit the barrier and it will stun you for X amount of seconds
Repelling Barrier - Hit the barrier, and it will literally launch you away to a random place on the map. This could be both hurtful and strategically beneficial if you wanted it to be.
Sludge Barrier - Hit the barrier and it will slow you to 10% speed for X amount of seconds.
Beacon Barrier - hit the barrier, and it will show a light over you for X amount of seconds
Stealth barrier (beneficial) - hit the barrier, and you will go invisible for x amount of seconds. During this time you may not attack.
Silent barrier(beneficial) - hit the barrier and you suddenly make no sound when running for X amount of seconds
Plague Barrier - hit the barrier, and you are diseased! this makes you go into a coughing fit, making noise and reducing your accuracy.
Loot Barrier(beneficial) - hit the barrier, and random loot will fall in front of you(1 per person)
Ammo Barrier (beneficial) - hit the barrier and you will automatically fill your ammo
Faded Barrier (beneficial) - you CAN pass through the barrier! but you better be back inside it before it becomes solid again!
I could list a ton of them, but you get the idea... maybe i'm off base, but could be an interesting dynamic and it would change gameplay a lot on how to strategically set yourself up.
at the very least, I think making the barrier so you cant physically pass through it could be interesting at the very least.
